Why I studied finance and tax after engineering
When I tell someone I am a mechatronics engineer and that I am studying a master in comptrollership, the usual reaction is a long pause followed by a version of: how does that connect?
The short answer is: completely.
I can design systems, automate processes, and build software. But if I do not understand tax structure, financial statements, and the incentives inside a business, I have a ceiling as a builder.
Technical and financial decisions are not separate worlds. The best business decisions I have seen have both components tangled together. Understanding both sides makes the work harder, but also more useful.
For me, studying finance was not a detour. It was a deliberate move to remove a specific weakness in my operating range.
